Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Kids in the kitchen

Is this about us? It is only 8 o'clock on this Friday morning and Belle's play date arrives. The sun shines brightly outside, the blue water of the pool sparkles, glitters and waits for children to jump in. Nice, nine year old girls run around, not for long, there they are, back in the house already. On their way to the heart of the house. The epic center.
''Can we make pancakes mom''.
 ''Solange can help us''.
''Of course that's nice''.
Is this about a magnetic field. Or what? When there are play dates at our home, the play often happens in my kitchen. It makes me laugh that I have the feeling that so many kids just love to cook, to bake and to eat together. There it is again, the idea of setting up something like a kitchen atelier. Here in Rabat there is certainly a demand for after school activities, nicely fit in a learning context. An extra advantage here in Morocco is of course that you find yourself so easy personal. And we are truly blessed with our maid Zineb. She is a mystery with her dark black eyes, her golden rings and bracelets, she drops them around the kitchen. It's like a fairy tale. Her ring get lost in the dough and is found later on a nice golden plate and changes the sick princess, while taking a first bite, into a healthy and ever smiling young girl.
The story behind this recipe of pancakes is about my friendship with my dearest friend Virginia. She has those good old recipes in her messy, too much used looking cookbooks from Canada. We met, a couple of years ago, back in Lausanne and our children became best friends. We share the taste for food, cultures and live our lives outside our native counties. I miss her and while smelling the flavors in the house she feels close by.
