Figs.
Green outside, white, soft and pink inside.
This delicious and ancient fruit take us back in fairy times.
These funny looking fruits make me jump in a splashy bath of memories and food sensations.
The girls picked the figs the last three summers, while spending summer vacation in a villa in Poggio Catino in Lazio, Italia. The region which embodies the capital Rome.
In the peaceful setting of this Italian village, we felt at home. The immense yard, the artistic and classical decoration of the villa. The landlords themselves live their life in their magnificent apartment in Rome. The family inherited their family name in the long line from old Roman families: Fioravanticinci. Beautiful ornaments and art pieces make those both places feel like small Palazo's. A romantic journey through the era of the Medicis.
Figs with goat cheese, honey and thyme.
Cut the figs. Use a soft and young goat cheese. You can also try with picodon,
a nice small and harder cheese. It will have a more intense taste though.
Spread the cheese upon the figs, poor honey and add fresh thyme.
Place the figs decorated shortly in the oven or until cheese is melted.
You can eventually grill the figs a second when warmed in the oven.
It's easy and so delicious. The girls are good in making this fancy appetizer or aperitif.
In Rabat I bought my figs at the vegetable stand just outside Supermarket Souissi, Route Mohammed V.
