Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Get the story out

The counselor of secondary school spoke with the students of ninth grade about Solange's allergies. There was another girl with gluten allergy. The counselor's policy to confront the students with the allergy topic was important, respectful and very serious. Her action means a huge positive sign to the school community. To realize a better understanding among the students for allergies, the school needs to act objective, open and  has to fight prejudices. Get the story out, make it possible to have a comprehensible discussion among the students. To stand alone with your allergy and frustration is not making anything better for anybody. Being the talk of the school because of your health, is no fun. During the discussion with the counselor all students were kindly asked not to bring any snacks, containing nuts and peanuts, on the trip.
I can see that my daughter feels very OK about the meeting.
The fact that an adult launches a meeting on behalf of your allergies makes you feel strong and pretty much understood. I appreciate the way the counselor handled this and feel more confident to step forward and see if we can work out a protocol for the school. So far the school doesn't have any policy or protocol regarding these allergy issues .

Education becomes meaningful when a school takes initiative and shows responsibility to discuss important and often neglected matters.

I was in my readings the entire day and I feel anxious while researching the published studies about bullying and allergies. Being different, difficult to accept by the others. Teen and allergic a challenge to accept and to worship.
