Location: Terres d'Amanar Morocco. (info@terresdamanar.com)
I wonder how she's doing. Her sister visited the area last year in 6th grade. She told her sister 'you will be fine'. 'It's absolute fun you know'. 'I don't remember if there were nuts..or peanuts or.., but the food was great.' My feeling tells me, she is OK. The intuition is my guide.
She has been fine during every trip she made in her former school life. Her first trip has been with her Kindergarten in Cassis, France. Solange only 4 years old then, traveled with school and chaperons to a camp location at a three hours bus drive from home. The theme of that week was much about theater expression. She left my small baby: determinate, excited and responsible. Teachers were well aware of the risks by taking her on the trip with them. But a learning challenge, for faculty and students, at the same time. I gave her few food for every day like healthy snacks (plain LU biscuits and Lindt chocolate) and the kitchen staff at the location was informed about the 'patient'. Solange knew by heart what she could eat. She was committed to the allergy project: I am what I eat, I know what is best for me! 'My parents know, they eat what I can have'.
Almost a decade late, trip number 10 and my role is still pretty much the same, being her mother, her support, loving, reliable and close, that's what I try.. She is my globe trotter. I insisted this week, to bring some snacks. Those teenagers rather prefer 'to dye' than to eat something 'different' than all others. Her motto is: 'I prefer not to eat at all'. Happily she agreed after some discussion. The choice of snacks is after all those years still very much the same: plain biscuits, cinnamon dutch delight and Lindt chocolate. Why changing a good balance?!
This three day retreat to Terres d'Amanar is about high school life, preparation for transition the college and is also about emotional and physical health. Allergy is strongly connected to both aspects.
