when you think of traveling with all your heart and you know you’re the one who’s not leaving I cooked myself through recipes and found consolation and comfort in the flavors. Like artists who studied the orient form afar I felt energized and inspired in my tiny London kitchen while making Turkish recipes. Dots of dates, apricots and pomegranate like my friend mentioned in a thank you message this morning describing the exquisite taste of last night dinner and fun night with friends sharing food, culture, stories and our children here and around Europe, Australia and America. Vegan and gluten free, free of nuts and replacing walnuts by grilled sliced almonds. It’s difficult for me to make a choice for recipes as I get always lost in to many recipes I would like to cook. Lack of focus, adult ADHD and the difficulty of decision making. It’s exhausting and I know I need to set boundaries for myself. Finding my pace, and not blaming the world for who I turned out to be. Last night was wonderful and we traveled to places while we sat at the dinner table and I did my best not to interrupt conversations which is difficult when my head runs over and my mind starts wandering around. October is orange, is Autumn,is birthdays, is a mental switch towards shorter days and ultimate the clock going back by an hour. I’ve been making a few dishes with apples, butternut and pumpkin and the leftovers I’ve been turning into small new adventures. Butternut pie spiced with mushrooms, mustard seeds, chili flakes, cinnamon and fresh green herbs and a hike made crust dough made with chickpea flower, gf rice flower and plain gf flower. A few days later I made a smaller pie from the leftover dough, the -oven baked butternut chunks, the -grilled chickpeas and added a tin of pumpkin mash, handful of rice, flax egg and soja cream. It turned out in this smooth velvet dark orange pie with a thin crust - only had so little dough left - and a green baby spinach salad with apple and pumpkin seeds, olive oil, mustard and balsamico oil. Today I’ll receive a new cookbook, all about the vegetarian and vegan Turkish kitchen and heritage. the heritage is, the great great grand father would have been so proud, amazed and would have loved the idea of great great grand daughters baking, fulfilling dreams, breathing life into their own recipes vegan and gluten free. Based on culinary curiosity, not afraid of anything that breaks down the status quo. And I’m in total admiration. Love it. Daughters with love for food, I am what I eat in all its variety and flavors and so very happy I could go with their flow becoming vegan all along and consequently we took over our own kitchen to develop and transform into a new adventure . Reinvented patisserie. Mediterranean girls with an orange heart, the sea and the flavors from Cassis and Marseilles. Memories and shared cultural heritage from the north, the Netherlands. Couldn’t resist to post this.
